AGAMA YOGA COURSES OVERVIEW |
Classes
Agama courses provide full knowledge of a deep esoteric system of
self-development created for those who are genuinely interested in
spiritual evolution. At the moment, our courses are established in Thailand, Israel, India, and Greece. We are also related to other centers and teachers worldwide
that provide similar or parallel education. Due to the specific nature
of the teachings, our courses are divided into consecutive one-month
blocks of study. The entire curriculum begins with our classic First Month Intensive Course.
This beginners’ course is a step-by-step approach to Yoga, in the
secret oral tradition. It requires no preparation or previous
knowledge. The lessons start with simple information and exercises, and
gradually continue with more complex and stronger techniques.
Joining in
A remarkable feature of the Agama teachings is the cyclical format of
courses. The teachings have been structured so that any student may
join, for example, the introductory First Month Intensive Course
at any time (this course is taught every month in Thailand), and
continue his or her studies as opportunity allows. This course is
especially designed so that newcomers can comfortably fit in at any
stage, and it is possible to join it for shorter periods (for example,
on a weekly or daily basis), or to complete it in small sections, over
longer periods of time.
The same
course structure applies to all of our intermediate and advanced
classes. We normally hold the second and third levels of the course
monthly, and intermediate / advanced levels twice per year (check Calendar
for complete course offerings). Students join us as their time and
means allow, studying perhaps two months with us over winter, then they
return to work in their home country and plan to synchronize with
successive course levels during the following year’s holiday. In this
way, a student may progress through the curriculum conveniently and
easily.
Course supplements
Each class is accompanied by printed materials containing comprehensive
information about the new techniques of the day, as well as various
other esoteric topics. Teachers are always available to answer
questions and to offer personal guidance, counseling, and healing.
Films and documentaries on relevant topics are shown whenever possible,
in the evenings after the lectures.
Certificates
All those successfully completing the First Month Intensive Course
are awarded a certificate. This takes place during a special graduation
ceremony and social evening at the end of each course. Certificates are
also awarded to students who successfully pass various sash degree examinations,
given at periodic stages throughout the curriculum to verify progress
and competency with the course material and general spiritual
advancement.
Higher level courses
While the First Month Intensive Course gives a deep understanding of
Yoga, it is still only an appetizer to what Yoga actually is and what
it can do for you and the rest of the world. In this spirit, Agama
offers a course of university-level quality, in which knowledge expands
and the practice builds on itself as you progress on your spiritual
journey. Once you have completed the introductory course, you may
continue your studies with the second month course, the third month
course, and so on, at one of our centers. This education stretches over
a period of several years (see Curriculum Overview)
although, as mentioned above, each individual may study in fractional
periods as convenience allows. The Agama courses offer an A-to-Z
approach to Yoga and many related topics, enabling you also to
eventually become a spiritual Yoga teacher and a bearer of this flame of knowledge in the world.

AN INTRODUCTION TO AGAMA’S WORKSHOPS |
Agama
teaches workshops to offer its students the ability to experience
short-duration, high-intensity, and in-depth immersion studies in a
variety of esoteric topics.
Under
the leadership of Swami Vivekananda Saraswati, Agama offers a
continually expanding slate of workshops, which can be catered to any
group, location, or format.
Agama also presents groups with two unique opportunities:
- a group may request a workshop topic from the Agama roster of selections and ask that it be taught anywhere in the world
- a
group may enjoy the prospect of creating its own workshop within Swami
Vivekananda’s realm of his expertise, and hosting this event.
Various stipulations apply to these scenarios. Contact us for more information on requesting a workshop.

YOU’RE INVITED TO VISIT THE AGAMA HEALING CENTER! |
|
Agama Yoga is very pleased
to announce the opening of our new Agama Yoga Consultation Center after
many years of dreaming and hoping! It is located conveniently close to
(in fact opposite the driveway of) our Bovy Resort center in Haad Chao Phao, Koh Phangan, where we have held classes and workshops for more than five years.
Swami Vivekananda
led a consecration and meditation with Ganesha at the official
dedication ceremony and reception 30 March, attended by about 30
students and teachers who packed the front room of the center and
spilled out the door. Currently, the center features a front reception
area, consultation and treatment room, and a parapsychology lab, which
houses some equipment but is not yet fully operational. We intend to
fully establish and open the lab in January.
The Agama Consultation Center now offers
chiropractic treatments during two-hour drop-in sessions three days per
week as well as consultations by appointment with Dr. Mihaiela Pentiuc
for medical advising, Yogic therapy, and homeopathic remedies. All
services are provided on a donation basis, in the spirit of Karma Yoga
and from the heart.
We have identified some supply and equipment needs,
and are seeking supportive individuals who wish to help with donations
of any size. Large or small donations are equally appreciated for
assisting us toward this very worthy goal of accessible alternative
health and healing consultation and treatment for all, yogis and
community members alike.
We wish to thank all donors very sincerely for their generosity and care. Namaste.

How to request an Agama teacher |
If you are interested in receiving the genuine teachings of this
spiritual tradition but cannot attend courses at one of our centers,
Agama Yoga presents you with a unique opportunity! You may choose to
host a teacher in your city or sponsor the opening of a branch
location. Agama Yoga teachers are available to travel upon request to
give workshops, Yoga courses, or special Yoga programs. These can be
weekend, week-long, or even month-long (or more) Yoga courses for
beginners or current pupils of Agama. Pending staffing availabilities,
Agama will provide a qualified teacher and all related course material.
Your group should organize a suitable location for the teachings and
cover expenses concerning food, accommodation, and transportation.
Additionally your group should make a salary proposal for the teacher
if teachings are intended to be ongoing. A special fee structure
governs workshop presentations, and includes a commission plus free
attendance for the organizer; please write for details. Teachers are
also happy to stay and teach in private residences if convenient for
the group involved.

SWAMI VIVEKANANDA SARASWATI |
|
Born in 1962, Swami
Vivekananda Saraswati is the brilliant exponent of a unique and modern
trend of thinking in Yoga. Educated as an electrical engineer, he is a
passionate and dedicated teacher of the true, ancient lines of Indian
and Tibetan Yoga, rapidly becoming lost in today's "spiritual
marketplace."
Although he does
not deviate in spirit from the traditional teachings of ancient
masters, he has found the resources to present spirituality not as
something dogmatic and dead, but as a living science, based on common
sense and joy, which at the same time fulfills the fundamental quest of
man.
He first studied spiritual sciences at
the age of 16 with his first spiritual mentor and, by the onset of
university studies three years later, had begun intense yogic and
tantric practice under the guidance of his first guru. During the
Communist period of the 1980s, Romanian Yoga teachers suffered severe
persecution (arrests, torture, beatings, etc.), and Swami was one of
those who shared this fate. In 1990 he moved to Copenhagen where he
founded NATHA, now Denmark's largest Yoga school. In 1998, Swami
Vivekananda – a gold medalist in the Physics Olympics who was also
accepted for membership to Mensa International – took full sannyasa
vows at the Kumbha Mela in India, at which time his diksha guru gave
him his new and famous name representing discriminating insight.
Subsequently, he spent four years in India, where he taught in
Rishikesh, and was so well regarded that the Indian government found
him best qualified to represent Yoga at its International Yoga Week!
While restrained by a modesty that
prevents him from discussing it often, Swami Vivekananda has reached
high states of spiritual realization and samadhi, and therefore can
offer a proven path to spiritual accomplishment and does so in
well-articulated concepts. He is one of the few Western tantric
teachers well versed in Kundalini Yoga and Gnostic Christianity, and
even specializing in the intensely spiritual Tantra Yoga of Kashmir
Shaivism. His genius is in giving a coherent representation of world
spirituality in an impeccably practical form.
In the middle of an intense teaching
schedule, Swami is calm and tireless. One moment he is healing (he is a
practitioner of chiropractic and other healing methods), another moment
lecturing on subjects outside the courses or giving direct initiations
to a class, sometimes demonstrating asanas or pranayama, other times
discussing personal life problems with pupils, possibly in their own
language (he speaks five). He inspires with his personal example, with
examples from history, quoting uninterruptedly from scores of ancient
texts and spiritual masters – and with a great sense of humor.
This exceptional man, who has
dedicated his life to guiding others along this pure and true spiritual
path, is regarded by his pupils as a highly realized, beloved Yoga
master and gifted teacher.

The Agama teaching staff has always been a carefully selected group of diligent yogis, all having several years' experience with this style of Yoga as Swami Vivekananda's dedicated pupils.
Our selection process involves a conscientious evaluation of a prospective new teacher on many levels. In addition to his or her technical knowledge of the techniques taught, we are interested in the spiritual level of the teacher:
- his or her degree of accomplishment and surrender to the Absolute
- the capacity to perceive the subtle energies both of Nature and of the students in a class
- the capacity to emit the subtle invisible energies necessary to the process of teaching
- and other abilities found at higher levels of Yoga
Students who advance in the courses according to our standards usually become qualified to teach by the 15th month, although one may spend years in this school learning all the techniques by heart and still lack the "spirit" that distinguishes quality teaching. Therefore, there is no exact formula, and selection is conducted by Swami Vivekananda alone.
We subscribe to this process at all of our teaching centers; however, at the request of many students, we now host Teacher Training Courses! Yoga is most certainly too vast to learn in just 12 weeks (the length of our program), but the fundamentals can be absorbed and a foundation established for a capable teaching practice. These courses serve our larger goals of helping to bring Yoga to as many people as possible.
