Probably yes…
You might feel like a very loving person, but almost no one living today lives like Jesus or Rumi or Mother Teresa.
Yoga tells us that it can take many lifetimes to truly open the heart.
So, what can you do about it, this time around?
Work on Anahata, the Heart Chakra, again and again and again.
How to Open Anahata Chakra
First, it is important to understand that when we talk of love at the level of Anahata, it has nothing to do with the romantic kind of love in Hollywood movies. Love on Anahata is unconditional and all-forgiving. It is a love that recognizes that all are one, allowing for a deep and profound love of all beings. Here’s how you can get there:
1. Focus
Focus your mind on Anahata Chakra in the correct way using specific Yoga practices such as Asanas (Yoga Postures), Pranayama (Breathing), Dharana (Concentration) and Dhyana (Meditation). For example, Bhujangasana, the cobra pose, can take you into a deep experience of universal love, if you focus energy in the area of the heart plexus.
2. Resonance
Engage in activities that increase your resonance with Anahata Chakra, such as:
- Music meditation using music that resonates on Anahata Chakra
- Watching movies that convey the feelings and ideas of Anahata, for example stories of great saints
- Reading the poetry of Rumi, Hafiz, Mirabai and other such great teachers of the Heart
- Working with the air element as much as possible as it corresponds with Anahata.
3. Transmission
Spend time in the presence of teachers and people who have a strong resonance on Anahata Chakra and can give you a real transmission of Anahata consciousness.
4. Devotion
Devotional practices are a gateway to the heart. Pray, make offerings to the Divine and sing Bhajans (sacred mantras) from the heart!
By practicing in these ways consistently, we can purify and energize Anahata Chakra, dissolving blockages and making it possible to open the heart in this lifetime.
